My goal in life is to be successful and happy in whatever I choose to do. That could be in a sport like softball, in my education, or equally as important, in what I decide to pursue as a career.
My softball career so far has taught me a tremendous amount on how to be happy and successful. I have learned how to be a good team player, how to work well in a stressful environment and under extreme pressure, how to manage my time well between academics and athletics and how to be confident in myself.
Self-confidence is probably the most rewarding thing that I have acquired. I was this small, shy, quiet and insecure little girl and people would refer to me as a little mouse. When I was younger I did not think much about it and didn’t think it was a big deal until I started playing club softball. I was mixed in with girls that were very secure, very good athletes, and had a high level of knowledge of the game. To succeed, being that small and shy little girl was not an option. By playing high level competitive softball I was able to transform myself into one of those types of people.
Being a catcher as my main position has required of me to become tough and confident. The catcher is the most vocal person on the field, has the most knowledge of the game, directs and encourages teammates and has to have thick skin. It requires focus in game deciding situations and being that person that can lift their pitcher through the situation. I have created many of my closest friendships with pitchers on my team. We continually work together throughout the offseason and that in itself helps to create a high degree of trust in each other and life long friendships.
When it comes to picking the school I want to attend my options are wide open. I just hope to find that college that best fits me athletically and academically. At this point in time I have no idea what I want to do after college, however I am leaning towards a business or physical therapy major. After college I would also love to become a coach so I can stay apart of the game as long as I can.
