Personal Statement

My name is Cam Cornell and I am a Sophomore at Clinton Prairie Junior-Senior High School in Frankfort, IN.     I am also a member of the Indiana Legends Travel League, coached by Aaron Pendleton.  I am excited to start my 5th year with a travel team(second year with the Legends),  and to continue my journey into college as a student athlete.  My hope is to stay fairly close to family, receive a degree in Secondary Education, and play softball.   I would love the opportunity to show you that I am a dedicated, hardworking, fun athelete and be the catcher you are looking for to fill one of your catching positions.

As a catcher, one of my strongest skills is blocking and having an accurate throw to the bases.    I also help my team vocally by calling out plays and directing throws.  I am also a lefty hitter who can also slap and bunt.  I work hard on the field and take the advice from my coaches to make me a better player.  I have taken my hard work to my high school team, to make the team as a varsity catcher and started every game.    Because we were in need of another left corner defensive player,  I was moved to cover third base, where my percentage of outs thrown from third base was 98.9%.  I was also 3rd  in the batting lineup and ended the season at 3.83,  and was the top 5 hitters on the team.  I was awarded Best Defensive Player of the season.  My max preps stats can be found here:  http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/cam-cornell/3j_UfBlUEeeT-Oz0u-e-FA/gendersport/softball-stats.htm#year=16-17

I am currently active in my youth group at my church, and volunteer my time at school with various activities when I can.  I am also a part of my high school drama/debate club to help me with public speaking and I use it as a great stress reliever when we are able to act and do comedy  with our peers.  I am currently working with a batting, catching, and personal trainer to help me get in the best shape I can to continue my softball career.
