When it comes to choosing a college, education most definitely comes first. I make sure to manage my time around my homework and studying because I know how important good grades are to a successful future. However, I am equally passionate about my schoolwork as I am with softball. I have been playing for so long that softball is a part of me now, and I don't know what I'd do without it. I find so much joy and pleasure in it that I try so hard to be the best I can be.
I am very passionate and dedicated about my school work and softball, because I make sure to practice and study with optimal effort one hundred percent of the time. A coach told me once that you never want to plateau as an student-athlete, and you are consistently trying to be better than you were the last time. Whenever I am in school or at practice I keep this mantra in the back of my mind, because it drives me to work my hardest to always get better, because that's all I want to do. I have another saying written on the door of my room, so that when I walk out of it every morning, I know what to do. It states, "Do today what others won't so tomorrow you can do what others can't." I implement this in my school work, by studying more and taking more detailed notes, and by planning out my time in order to get work done. On the field, I make sure to have fun and enjoy the fact that I am playing the game I love, but also to push my thoughts and doubts out of my mind so that I can focus on improving my skills.
I believe that I would bring something new to a college team because I find myself to be very intense. I make sure take control of the situations I am placed into, whether it be bases loaded with two outs or having a group project. I believe myself to be charismatic and a good sport, and I tend to bond with new teammates very quickly, because I love having a close-knit team and being a part of a team where everybody supports and respects each other. I know from being on my travel team that having good chemistry and building friendships helps you win on the field, because you are able to support each other and you know how to pick each other up. So, because I am able to form relationships with people easily, I can help my team become closer and more supportive of each other every day. I know that I am very competitive, so I am always trying to hit the ball with all my strength and put all my might into it, and I always want to win. Honestly, losing is extremely disappointing to me because it shows me that I could've done something better, but it also teaches me something to improve on the next day, and as I said before, my main goal is to play in college so that I can further advance my softball skills.
I aspire to be a sports journalist when I grow up, because I get to experience and share the things I love everyday in a way that I enjoy. Therefore, it is my goal to find a college that will help me become a journalist, but also a place where I can continue to play softball, the game I love.
