Personal Statement

My name is Krystina Lorch.  I am a 16 year old Sophomore at West Valley High School in Hemet, California.  My goal is to attend  quality school that will offer me an excellent educational opportunity.  I am very interested in studying either Criminal Justice or Marine Biology.  I've been playing softball for as long as I can remember.  Being a student-athlete has opened my eyes to the wonderful possibilities of what I am truly capable of.   I have a strong work ethic both academically and athletically.  However, my faith is what guides me.  As an athlete, I had chosen the scripture Psalm 27:3 to put on my letterman jacket.  Given choices myself and other face at my age, I find this one the most fitting.  Below I've highlighted some of the events that have happened.

Junior Year

Beginning the Year has started off with 7am conditioning.  This year I am taking two AP classes so I decided against playing volleyball.  Because I am playing travel softball again I thought it might be best not to overload my schedule with sports.  I attended a number of camps over the summer and intend to attend at least one camp each month to keep up my competitive edge.

Sophmore Year

As the school year ended, so did the high school softball season.  I finished the 2nd semester again with a 3.57 GPA keeping my overall GPA at a 3.64, making me ranked 40th in a class of 423.  I made the Principal's List for the Fourth time.  For softball, my team and I had an awesome season.  We won the Mountain Pass Division for the first time and made it to CIF again.  I received 2nd Team All League again.  My coach told me I was eligible for 1st Team All League, but I had an injury that took me out for the last two games.  My batting average was a .436 and my fielding percentage was .866 according to my Max Preps Stats.  Finally, I finished top 10 in my division for Slugging Percentage, Runs Batted In, Runs, On Base Percentage, Stolen Bases, and Fielding Percentage.

Mid way through my Sophmore Year,  I finished the first semester with a 3.61 GPA overall.  I have taken the ACT and am waiting the results.  I earned a varsity letter for Volleyball and have made the Varsity Softball team for the second year.  I currently hold the second highest batting average and the highest on-base average.

I started my sophomore year hitting the books hard and working out hard.  I kept my Zero Period for early morning weight training.  This year I have a rigorous academic schedule with AP European History, Pre-Calculus, Chemistry and Honors English again.  Right now I'm focusing on school and travel softball.  I wasn't going to play volleyball, but both coaches have asked me to reconsider.  I made the Varsity Volleyball Team.  This summer I played in the Louisville Slugger Independence Day Tournament and participated in the 2018 All-Star Games.  I made some awesome plays with my teammates.  I was able to talk to a couple of JC and NAIA Coaches and caught the attention of a couple of DIIs.  I spent the summer hitting some local softball camps like Fullerton College and UCSD.  We won the California Cup Tournament in August.  I can't wait to see what this year has to offer.

Freshman Year and Prior

When I was younger, I was chosen every year to be on the local All-star teams.  I was MVP in ASA tournaments and my team won the 2012 PONY Nationals Tournament.  Everyone would talk about playing college softball, but it wasn't until I won the 2012 Aquafina Pitch, Hit, and Run that I realized, I too could be part of something great.  I was one of three girls in my age division chosen out of 650,000 other competitors to go to the MLB All-Star Game in Kansas City, Missouri.  While I was on the Royals Field shagging ball, I realized what I was capable of as a softball player and had a taste of what softball could do for me.  Later that night, I was given a 2012 USA shirt by the 2012 USA Softball Team.  At that moment, I decided, not only do I want to play college softball,  but I want to wear that jersey with my name and number to the 2020 or 2024 USA Olympic Softball Competition when softball makes its comeback.

Academics is also something I have always excelled in.  By the end of my eighth grade year, I had been the student body school class president and a two-time state decathlon participant.  As a freshman, I have a 3.71 gpa and am in all the advanced core classes offered at my school.  I made the "Principal's List" both semesters. I was picked up for the JV Volleyball team, of which I was made Co-Captain because of my ability and team spirit. At the end of the season my coach presented me with the MVP Award.   I currently play middle infield in travel softball for Sudden Impact's 18U Gold team and I have been picked up for my high school Varsity Softball team for the upcoming Spring season.  Everyday starts off with 7am conditioning for me.

I have trained myself to work hard both academically and athletically.  But softball is my passion.  I believe it is what will get me to places I want to be, whether it be around the States or around the World.  I know that with hard work and the right attitude, I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.  Right now, my mind is set on playing College Softball.  I want to be out on a field, doing what I love, showing you and everyone else what I can do and what I have to offer for my team.
