Personal Statement

I come from a town where attending a football game on Friday night is the thing to do. We go to work, we do our best, and don't outsmart our common sense. The trucks we drive are Chevy and the tractors Green. We never let our praying knees get lazy and a mans word means everything. My name is Emily Stokes and I am from Corning California. I am five foot seven inches and weigh one hundred and fifty pounds. I play three sports; volleyball, basketball, and softball. I am most passionate about softball by far, but give everything I can for other sports as well. Growing up I am the youngest in my family, therefore I am extremely fortunate to have been able to watch every one of my older sisters games in four different sports. I was able to see how her dedication and hard work paid off and I have taken that upon myself. I feel that accomplishment without hard work and dedication is unearned, therefore, I always give one hundred percent in everything I do. I have a lot of drive, and always play to win. I try to set an example by being a leader, and supporting everyone both on and off the field, as I feel every person on a team contributes whether it is physically, or by simply cheering others on. Coming from a small school, I have been on varsity sports teams or older age group travel teams for the majority of my high school career. With that being said, I believe I was forced to mature earlier and learn what it was like to be a team player very quickly. My most proud accomplishment as an individual was being picked as a pitcher for first team all state for small schools. I am looking for a school that has a lot of school spirit and support from the community and surrounding areas. It has always been a dream of mine too attend a larger university, giving I come from a high school that has an enrollment of about three hundred fifty students. I would like to be part of a college team that works hard, but still has a good time. The level of compition is also very imporatant to me. I believe it is important that players respect their coaches, and respond to them in a positive manner. I want everyone on the team to give their full effort every time they do something. In my experience, teams who work their hardest all the time are successful, which at the end of the day usually pays off by winning. Most of all, I want to fit in with the team and be comfortable. I want to make a difference, and have a positive impact. In addition, it is important to me that the school has the major I am interested in which is pre-physical therapy. I am also interested in sports training/health science. I believe that all athletes or anyone for that matter who work out or have some type of strength and conditioning coach, have such an advantage over everyone else. In my opinion, it makes you feel much better and gives you a sense of accomplishment knowing you are doing something to benefit your overall strength and health. Overall, I would like to attend a college that has a good program and is proud it. Somewhere that I love, feel like I belong, and can make a difference would be an ideal place for me.
