Personal Statement

I had the good fortune of growing up in Long Beach, CA, one of the strongholds for the sport of Water Polo. Both my Mom and Dad, as well as my Mom's two sisters and her Dad, graduated from LB Wilson High School. LB Wilson is considered to be like "water polo royalty" having sent several water polo players on to play at the Collegiate level and on to the Olympic stage. At a very young age, my parents took my identical twin brother and I to watch water polo matches all around the Southern CA area, including the Olympic Trials in Long Beach in 2004. At six-years-old my twin brother and I started playing water polo at CSULB with the LB Shore Aquatics Club, where we were coached by some of the world's best; Ricardo Azevedo, Tony Azevedo, Robert Lynn, Klaus Barth, Chi Kredell and Mihalis Konstas. Our foundational years of learning the sport were some of the best years of my life. Through the 6 years I played with LB Shore, water polo became more than a sport for me, it began to define a part of who I am as a person; like the USA Water Polo ad says,"I am Water Polo". The discipline and commitment I learned in water polo has carried over to every area of my life, both in my academic pursuits, my work ethic, how to respect others and be a team player and leader, and in the way I approach setting goals for what I hope to achieve. It has been my life long dream to play water polo at the collegiate level and possibly beyond. It would be incredible if my twin brother and I could play together on the same College team, as we have an intuitive ability to work seamlessly together in the pool. I have a great passion for this amazing sport, and it is inherent to who I am as an individual.
