Hello,
First, I wish to thank you for taking your time to review my profile.
My name is Alexander Ramirez (Alex), and I am looking forward to playing water polo at the collegiate level, where I can continue in my life goals of majoring in history/psychology to become a criminal investigator, while being a part of a water polo program with players, and coaches that have the common goal of succeeding.
I have been playing water polo since the age of 9, as a member of Chino Hills Area Water Polo Club (CHAWP). Before this time, I participated in soccer, baseball, and football. However, after going through my first season of water polo, I knew that this was the sport that I wanted to excel in. My freshman year, I made the varsity team, and continued to grow as a player, and as a student.
As a collegiate player, I desire to be part of a team that wishes to excel and improve each year, while being held accountable for my desire to graduate from an institution so as to prepare myself for life after college. To be a criminal investigator, I not only need to learn, but I also need to learn to lead. As a point guard for a ranked high school team, I have had to develop leadership skills to run our offense, and to do the things needed to make sure our team succeeds.
What makes me a good candidate for your team is the willingness to learn. I received a letter from my club coach (I can email this if you desire), and in it, he shared that at an early age, I was learning the sport. Yes, I am smaller in size, but I make up for it, with my willingness to play tough on defense, using my size for takeaways, and to distribute the ball. I have been told that high school water polo is much different from college water polo. One of the items I have been told, are the college players take polo seriously. This is what I look forward to, to be a part of a team that shares the goal to succeed.
What makes me different could be that I have traveled to volunteer to help build a playground in Honduras, assisted an elderly couple with their landscaping, helped build walls for a local business, and look forward to again, collecting gifts during the holiday season for people less fortunate than me. I have done this through a nonprofit, of which I am the president at my high school. I am also training to be a SCUBA divemaster, which allows me to assist in teaching and training others to scuba dive. I am hoping to teach orphaned youth, throughout the world in allowing them to become divemasters so they may in turn be given employment opportunities in the scuba industries where they live. Athletically, I am also a triathlete, and have been in several sprint triathlons, and hope to train for a half-ironman. I know the importance of keeping in shape for water polo season. By cross training, I have come into water polo season as one of the most prepared team members. Academically, school has been a challenge, due to auditory processing issues, but I have also known the importance of taking additional classes, with my regular classes, so I can be ready to go into college. I have also learned how to study in ways that allow me to learn best.
Thank you again for your time. I would be willing to share more with you by visiting your campus, and/or speaking on the phone.
Sincerely,
Alex Ramirez
