My name is John Everett and I will be graduating from Newbury Park High School as part of the class of 2021.
I try to be a good example of a scholar-athlete. I am very committed to both academics and volleyball and I want to continue both in college. I play both indoor and beach volleyball and I play both for my high school and for club teams. Between all of my beach and indoor practices, plus tournaments, I often play volleyball five days a week year round.
I haven't decided yet what I want to study in college. I am considering computer science. I made the honor roll all through middle school and I have a 4.0 GPA so far in high school. I'd like to be challenged academically in college.
My primary (and favorite) position is setter. Since my club team plays a 6-2, I also get the chance to hit as an opposite, which I enjoy a lot. I think that my beach volleyball experience has made me a well-rounded and aggressive player, so I can play pretty much any position. Since I have not yet grown to my full height (the boys in my mom's family are tall, but are late bloomers), I have had to become a good hitter through working on my vertical leap (currently just under 30 inches with approach). My dad is 6'3" and my older brother is 6'5", so everyone thinks I will probably end up somewhere in that range.
I earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I am currently working on my Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. Both of these activities are all about character and perseverance. I try to bring this to my volleyball game.
Thank you for considering me!
