Hello coaches, I am Baba Sylla and I think I am a good runner for your team. When I was young, I enjoyed watching track because of how the sport shows the athletes strength, speed and endurance. I was able to experience this for the first time in 4th grade, when I joined my elementary school's track team. I did track again in 5th grade and continued in 6th grade when I switched to Winchester Thurston. Since then, my love for the sport has grown and I have been putting more times towards it. By doing this, I have seen a lot of improvement in my running. Good evidence of this is how my junior season of track went. I moved up to try the 800m this season. I started the season off with a 2:06. My last open 800 race for the season I got down to 2:00.26. Each race up until then I pr'ed in this event by a second or two each time. In this same season, I made it to the state championship meet for the 4x800m and 4x400m relays. In the 4x800m relay, we got 4th overall. In the 4x400m relay, we got 11th in the prelim but did not advance to the finals. My junior track season showed that I have what it takes to compete with the best of the best of my state and can become better than I am now.
Performing well academically has always been another goal for me. Academic excellence is important to expand my knowledge and for my future. I really want to do some type of engineering in college. Specifically, computer hardware engineering. I have always loved computers, and I built my own computer (that I use to this very day) when I was 14. I like working and building things, which is why I believe majoring in engineering would suit me perfectly. I have heard that engineering is a challenging field, but with help of the hard college prep classes that Winchester provides, I know I would be able to handle any challenge that comes my way.
