Stephen Minto '14 Recruiting Profile

I am a highly motivated young athlete who has dedicated much of my competitive life to excellence. I have been participating in competitive sports since the 4th grade with football, wrestling and track. I love the feeling I get when I not only meet my goals but exceed them beyond my dreams. I work hard, training every day and while the sweat and pain can be grueling, I find a sense of pride when that hard work pays off. Within the last two years I have found a love for pole vaulting that I have never experienced before. There is nothing so invigorating as sailing over the bar on a height I had previously felt unreachable, and at that moment knowing nothing can stop me. The discipline, mental and physical control that this sport demands has focused my entire outlook on life. Through vaulting I have discovered that nothing is beyond my reach when I apply the same focus to everything as that perfect vault. This new found fire has awaken me to a whole new world of possibilities and dreams. Foremost of those dreams is to take my skills and talents to that next competitive level in collegiate athletics. I know everyone dreams of playing college sports, but this is more than a dream for me. It is and will be my reality. There are many hurdles and high marks I want to achieve on my way to making this dream happen to include qualify for districts and states during the next two years of high school as well as setting a new school record of 16’ at Hershey. However, these are superficial to the other goals I have for my life. Since I was young my parents have instilled in me an awareness that a college education will open doors for me and provide an opportunity to achieve success.

My professional dream is to one day either work in Engineering or Accounting because I love math or share my love of math by becoming a teacher.
