I live on a wheat farm in rural Eastern Oregon and have learned the value of hard work. During the summer I have cross country practice in the mornings followed by up to 10 hours of work on the farm. I am very grateful for this way of life because I feel it has taught me to have a strong work ethic and a strong set of character values. I play multiple sports that include cross country, basketball and track. I also played baseball for many years. Helping with the youth of my community is very important to me. I enjoy helping with Roundup City Racers which is a youth track program for elementary age kids. I have volunteered at the Happy Canyon Night Show for 17 years. It is Oregon's official outdoor pageant. It is a show that displays life before and during the pioneer days. My family has been volunteering for 3 generations in the 98 year old show. I was a member of 4-H for 7 years and started a hog breeding program on our farm where I sold pigs to other 4-H kids. I was the recipient of the Citizenship Cup at my high school. During the offseason of track I have continued to lift weights specifically for track performance and have kept in good running shape. Track is a new sport for me. I have only participated for 2 years but it is my favorite sport none the less. My goal for track is to further myself as an athlete, student and a young man by pushing myself to see how good I can be. I want to follow in my Uncle's footsteps and earn a scholarship to a Division I track program.
