Personal Statement

As a student enrolled in a Technical High School, I am challenged daily academically. I choose the most taxing classes to challenge me mentally. After school, I continue this discipline athletically. Each and every day I work on my throws either by doing weight training or form training and maintain my position as throwing captain and teacher to my team mates. Among this I do the running workouts with my other team mates to stay in peak condition. I am 5'11" and weigh 193lbs. I am a more speed based runner, but have competed in cross country as well with a 5k time of 18:16 at Brown Invitational XC meet. I specialize in the throwing events during the track and field season where I do shot put, discus and Javelin. In the shot put I am currently throwing 45 feet and last year I threw the discus 124'7" and threw the Javelin 162'8". In the Javelin Throw I was second in New York City for my sophomore and junior year. In my own borough championship meet of Staten Island, I won all three of the throwing events. This year, I am striving to reach 48' in the shot put, 140' in the discus and 180' feet in the javelin. On my team, I have been the Throws Captain for 3 years teaching my team mates the art of the throws. As an all around athlete, I continue to run events ranging from 100 meters to 1000 meters. In the 200 I currently run 24.7 and in the 800 I currently run 2:10. On top of my daily throwing workouts, I do either a long run or track workout every day. Since I run as well as throw, my training is elongated each day. I start at 3pm right after school each day and sometimes do not finish until 6:30pm. In college I hope to continue running and throwing competitively and wish to continue to extend my skills in track and field. Although sports are very important to me, the main reason I want to attend a college is to receive a great education in the field of Mechanical Engineering or general engineering.
