I believe I am a qualified candidate to be a collegiate-level cross country runner. Coming from a family of athletes, I possess a very athletic background. Growing up, I swam competitively, played soccer and lacrosse, would bike with my grandparents, and go on runs with my parents. Freshman year of high school was when I made one of the most important decisions in my running career. With the exception of swimming in the off-season, I decided to step away from my other sports and exclusively focus on cross country.
After excelling at running my freshman year, I quickly realized I had a talent for cross-country and became more and more interested in the sport. I put in hard work, dedication, and researched how to improve my technique and was able to accelerate even further my sophomore year. That is when I broke my school’s course record at Thompson Park during NJ Sectionals.
One obstacle I have had to overcome was my size. Being smaller than many of my opponents was one disadvantage I faced, but I was able to compensate with my work ethic and determination to succeed. Additionally, I was required to develop an early sense of leadership on my team being one of the stronger runners on a small team. In regards to academics, I feel that I have the ability to manage my time in a responsible manner. I am constantly striving to earn high grades while successfully balancing my studies with other activities.
