My name is Jack Halpin, I am 17 years old and a rising Senior at Ernest W. Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan. My journey with athletics and academics has been both exciting and encouraging. Looking back to the end of elementary and my middle school years, I could of never imagined being where I am today with both aspects of my life.
Athletically, my running has given me confidence, vision and goal setting that has helped to carve a clear path not only in my high school career but also my life. I have a strong grasp of my abilities and together with my drive, dedication and motivation I am only getting stronger and more passionate about running. In my short career, I am very pleased with my accomplishments and am very excited for my senior year of running cross and track where I can accomplish more of my goals.
I began my passion for running as a freshman. I had a personal best of 18:23 for Cross and a 10:57 for the 3200m. However, the following season, I dropped down to a 16:45 for Cross, 9:51 for 3200m and 16:05 in a certified 5K road race. I have been pretty motivated by my improvement between my freshman season up until today.
I believe that my progress both in Cross and Track are attributed to my dedication to training both during and off-season. I am so passionate about being my best that I know how important it is to stick with your plan and set goals for yourself. My goals for the upcoming year is to break a 16:00 at the beginning of the season and earn an All- County, All-Region and All-State recognition in Cross country. I feel that these goals are realistic given my consistent improvement over the last three seasons. My teammates and coaches would describe me as "most improved" "solid","consistent" and "rarely having a bad race."
My passion and motivation for running has also impacted my progress and drive in the classroom. Learning and school has not always come easy to me but running has helped me to gain confidence and reassurance that without hard work and dedication succeess cannot be achieved; without running I may not of learned this. I live by this motto as it helps me in the classroom and during training. I am improving my grades in a steady manner as I am improving my running abilities and successes.
I look forward to continuing my career as a high school runner/athlete and my future as a college athlete and competitor.
