My name is Tyler Higgins (Class of 2017, Track & Field) from Highland High School, located in Highland, Illinois. I am incredibly dedicated, and very competitive - both athletically and academically. I am just beginning the college search process and I'm looking for a strong academic institution that will allow me to succeed both on the track and in the classroom.
Academically, I take several AP and Honors classes (GPA 4.61/5.0) I have taken the ACT and scored a 33 composite with a 36 writing score and a 36 English score. On the SAT I have a 2050 with a 740 math score. On the PSAT, I scored in the top 1% nationally which will make me a commended national scholar at a minimum and potentially a National Merit scholar semi-finalist. (Will find out in September, 2016) I display strong personal character, deep-seated moral values, and I always represent myself, my family, and my community with dignity and respect. I am also a National Honor Society Candidate and will be an Illinois State Scholar.
Athletically, I recently completed my sophomore season this year as a 100m, 200m, and 400m sprinter with stellar accomplishments in Illinois Track & Field. The pinnacle of these achievements came at the IHSA Class 2A State Outdoor Championship, where I won the 400M State Championship with a FAT time of 48.29. In the outdoor post-season, I won all 3 sectional championships in the 100M, 200M, and 400M which qualified me for the state finals in each event. I also broke three school records in the 100m, 200m, and 400m this year and established two conference records in the 200m and 400m. I also hold second place in the conference record book in the 100m.
For the Illinois’ Top Times Meet (unofficial state indoor championship), I finished 2nd in class 2A in the 400M with a 50.55 (FAT), 3rd in the 200 with a 22.6 (FAT), and 9th in the 60M. In order to qualify for the Illinois Top Times meet, a sprinter needed to rank as one of the top 24 runners for eligibility into the 60M championship. As for the 200M and 400M championships, a sprinter must be ranked as one of the top 16 runners for entry into either event. This year - for the Class of 2017 - I was nationally ranked in the Top-15 indoors in the 200M and 400M, and Top-40 in the 60M (milesplit.com). Outdoors, I have a Top-15 national time for the Class of 2017 in 400M with a FAT time of 48.29. For the Class of 2017, I am ranked as one of the top sprinters in Illinois regardless of division, and considered to be an Illinois State Elite sprinter. My current personal records as of 2015 are as follows: 400M - 48.29 (FAT); 200M - 22.17 (FAT); 100M - 10.95 (FAT).
Qualifying for 3 individual championship events in both outdoors and indoors for any age in Illinois Top Times was quite an accomplishment. In fact, I was the only sprinter throughout all three classes that qualified and competed in all 3 individual sprints at the Top Times meet. As for the IHSA Outdoor Championship, I was the only sprinter in Class 2A that qualified for all three individual sprints. To this point, I have beaten many of Illinois’ top-ranked state sprinters throughout numerous meets. On a local level, I have many personal achievements as well. Following my 2014 Freshman season, I was named as an All-Area Honorable Mention for the 100M Dash. For the 2015 season, I was a first team all-stater, all sectional, all conference, and all county in the 100m, 200m, and 400m. I have been named to the Belleville News Democrat 1st Team All-Area for the 400M Dash, and Honorable Mention for the 100M and 200M. This past summer I attended the Nike Rising Stars track camp.
