Personal Statement

I am a middle to long distance runner from Waiakea High School. I specialize in the 1500m and 3000m runs, but continue to also increase my speeds in shorter distances such as the 800m run and 400m dash.  I just happened to join track at the end of my freshman year, found that I really liked it, and since then, I haven't never turned back, joining cross country my sophomore year, and also continuing with track.  I have run Varsity Cross Country since I joined the team as a sophomore, and was a team captain of the track team as a junior.  In my junior year in track, I was the Conference Champion in both the 1500m and 3000m run, and also placing 3rd in the 800m run.  At the State Championships, I placed 7th in the 1500m run, and 5th in the 3000m run.  In the 3000m run, none of the runners ahead of me had also run in the 1500m, and the time in which I ran my 3000m would have made me state champion in the previous year.  In addition to high school running, I have also run for a club team, winning my age division 2 years in a row in the 1500m and 3000m races at the Honolulu District Junior Olympics.  While running for this club, I have also run at the Footlocker Western Regional Cross Country Championships, where I placed 54st out of over 400 runners in the Junior/Senior race as a Junior.  I have a GPA of over 3.9, an SAT composite score of 1910, and an ACT composite score of 30.  I look forward to running in college where I can compete with the best runners while under the guidance of coaches who can help me to bring out my best.  I am looking to pursue a degree in Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology, with an emphasis on application to performance.  I would like to go to a school with excellent programs for this sort of degree, which also has a very strong running program.
