Hello,
My name is Mateo Ramirez. I am going into my senior year at Inderkum High School in Sacramento, California. I'm currently in the International Baccalaureate(IB) Program and have been able to maintain a 4.4(weighted) GPA. This program offers rigorous courses which challenge me on a daily basis. Not only does it test my academic skills, but it also tests my personal skills and have learned a way to manage both challenging courses, and my love for running. Running is something I didn't start to take serious until my Junior Year. Junior Year is when I decided that it was time to start picking up the mileage if I wanted to be successful. In the past nine months, I've worked my way up to a maximum of 60 miles per week and have seen tremendous improvement. I've had a 16 second PR in the 1600m from last season, and a 37 second PR in the 3200m from my sophomore season. These results wouldn't have been possible without my passion and dedication towards both Cross Country and Track. Although I might not be the fastest, I will always be one of the hardest workers and have shown time and time again that I will never give up or back down from a challenge.
Not only am I one of the hardest runners on the track, but I'm also one of the hardest working community members within my District. From an early age, I've learned that it's always good to give back to your community and help out as much as possible. I've taken on challenging tasks within my community such as putting together a 5k run, becoming a Youth Ambassador for the Social Media website Nextdoor.com, and have been apart of the Youth Advisory Committee. Balancing my education, running, and family life hasn't been easy and has even taken much sacrifices; however, I will continue to work until I achieve my dream. Which is to run collegiately.
My times may not be the fastest at the moment; however, by the end of my senior year I plan on running a 4:23 1600m and a sub 10 3200m. By the end of my college running career I plan on running below a 4:10 mile and a sub 9 minute 3200m.
Thanks for your time!
