I became interested in running during middle school, when I participated in the 5K for the first time. After finishing the 5K, I felt a rush from the accomplishment and wanted to be more prepared for my next race. I began to run on my own and my father also began taking me on runs. I enjoyed knowing that the effort I put into running determined how successful I could be. I feel that if I put in maximum effort, I will achieve or surpass my goals.
When I started running in high school, I was not considered to be one of the best athletes on my team. Seeing other runners on my team pass me during practice runs motivated me to improve myself. This self motivation and my competitive nature gave me a very strong desire to improve my running skills by running more and longer than other runners on the team. My hard work paid off and I was noticed by my coaches when I received an award for the Most Improved Athlete on the team and advanced to Varsity level in cross country and track and field my sophomore year. I was fortunate to help my cross country team win League 2 years in a row and we placed third in State (California) last year.
My dedication to keep improving in my sports has helped me apply this dedication to my education as well. My academic goals are to better myself and use the knowledge I have gained in college and and my career. I always take advantage of any opportunities available by participating in AP, Honors classes and college classes. I will be receiving college credit for Biology, English, Psychology, History and Spanish. I will also be awarded The Seal of Biliteracy for studying and achieving proficiency in Spanish.
