My name is Matthew Lopez and I am currently a senior at Pacifica High School in Oxnard California. On 3/3/2012 I competed in the Don green invitational held in Moorpark CA. Over 25 schools competed. I placed 1sr overall in the 200 and 400 and 3rd overall in the triple jump jr/senior cagatory. I have been to CIF my freshman year for the 4x4. However, I was not able to attend my sophomore year because of a hamstring injury and my junior year due to a stress fracture in my foot. I have since learned from these injuries and am taking care of my body better by eating right and doing other things. One of my personal accomplishments that I am proud of is that my coach hand timed me at a 48.8 split for my anchor leg in the 4x4, although I don't count this as a legit PR since it was a relay and hand timed, I see it as a mark to aim for in the open 400. Another achievement that I am proud of is the fact that I will be on the Varsity track team all 4 years of my high school career. I've also been running track for 8 years now, starting with distance and slowly moving down to the sprints. The things I can offer are my determination, leadership, and focus. I've watched college track meets and they're amazing, It is one of my goals is to be able to compete along side people like that. I was team co-captain so I know how to take charge if necessary. When I focus on something I work extremely hard to achieve it, even if it means staying after to work extra. I'm not too picky on where I go to school right now, I would just like to be able to go to a university that offers a good track program while also offering a good education program. The size of the school does not really matter to me. I don't have any desired major yet, my closest thought of one is going into something like sports medicine. Lastly, some of my goals this year are to run a sub 49 in the 400, run under 22.3 in the 200, and jump over 43 feet in triple jump. I am extremely excited for this next season because I know that I will be in my best condition.
