Will Bartsch '11 Recruiting Profile

I'm looking for a track team at a school with a great academic record. Although I'm outgoing and considered very social.... it's the overall academic experience that is going to best help me get a good job someday. My background is in competetive gymnastics and football. My best event was the pommel horse. They tell me I have more natural upper body strength than normal and as a running back I was fast and could hit low. My problem was I didn't have the dance moves to escape the head to head hits so I moved on to pole vaulting. I love it. Pole Vaulting involves physics (my favorite subject) and form. And when everything comes together it's a thrill. I'm looking for some active coaching. In gymnastics I had a former Olympian named Mako Sokamoto who completely understood how to communicate improvements with me. With pole vaulting so far, I really havn't had a steady coach who could focus with me. For most of my high school years, the opposing team's coaches would take me under their wing and work with me during the meets. That's one of the aspects of vaulting that is so special. Most vaulters celebrate one another's efforts and enjoy helping each other. I'd like to find a school where I can contribute as needed. If being a walk on or red shirt Freshman is a good idea, that's fine. I plan on going to school through my Master's Degree anyway.
