My name is Isaac Trevino IV, I am a 17 year old senior at Centennial High School in Bakersfield California and I love to run. I’ve started developing this passion for running in 1st grade when my elementary school would have track meets during PE and I was determined to be the ‘fastest 1st grader in the school.’ Once I realized that I could continue to compete beyond the school daytime events I set goals each year. The most fun I had was running 100m, 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay events and each year I qualified to compete further and further into the season.
From 5th to 8th grade I played club basketball through the National Junior Basketball league while running for the Rosedale Racers and Bakersfield Roadrunners Track Club. I ran cross country and track and field through participated in AAU and USATF. Each running season I qualified to compete in events at the National level. In track and field my events were the 800m, 1500m and 4x800m. During these years I had the privilege of running in Alabama, Iowa, Florida, Reno and Oregon.
During high school I ran cross country my freshman, sophomore and senior year. My only high school track and field season was running Varsity my junior year 2014. It was a very successful and rewarding year for me because I
'found my legs’ again.
These are just a few of my track and field accomplishments:
- honored by the local Bakersfield Jockey Club,
- South West Yosemite League – All League - First Team,
- All Area – Kern County - First Team,
- 4th overall in the 800m at the Arcadia Invitational (I competed in the open 800),
- 1st place at West Coast Relays, Central Valley Classics, Clovis East Carnival, Patriot Games
- Qualified our 4x400m relay team (PR 3:21.9) to compete at the CIF State Championship (running the anchor leg with my split ranging from :47 to :49)
- 800m record holder at Centennial High School (it was a 16 year record)
- 5th place in the 800m at the 2014 CIF State Championship
My immediate goal is to earn a full scholarship to a university that will not only provide me with an excellent education but also have the opportunity to work with an excellent coaching staff and training facility. My long term ambition is to continue running after college well enough to compete professionally. I know with hard work, great coaches and my supporting family and friends I can make this happen and fulfill my dreams.
I once thought I would never be able to run again. It was such an awakening when one of my younger teammates told me, “if you can’t run again that’s gotta be sad, because you were born to run.” To this day I believe running is not only my passion but it’s my purpose. Regardless of which school gives me an opportunity to be part of their program I will do my best to perform to the best of my abilities and the level that I’m expected to perform.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
