Personal Statement

My ultimate goal is to run for a college that pushes me beyond my thoughts of limitation, and to be a part of a team that strives for excellence.  In order to reach these goals I want to work to improve mentally and physically every day. My focus is also on improving my grades and continuing to live and breath running and academics.  I am working to raise my GPA.  My love for running made me lose focus on what was equally important, my grades. I began my training both mentally and physically last year with the goal of breaking 15.00, even though it was thought unreachable by others in our school. I was able to achieve this goal last year and exceed it this year with a time of 14:44.1 at the Seaside Invitational this September.  As a team captain this year, my focus is not only on bettering myself, but also encouraging all of our team to PR and run the best they can in each race, having fun and reaching our team goals.  We succeeded so far this season in our first invitational where our school came in 2nd overall for boys and 9th for girls. Our training has made all the difference, we work hard together in the weight room, during our runs, through stretching and encouraging each other to exceed what we think we can do.  I am grateful to have excellent coaches and a private coach who helps me break the pain barriers and keep mentally focused. We had a great first race for the season and I am looking forward to our team continuing to dominate as we move through this season.  The final one for me as a senior.  I am enjoying and appreciating every day.

Events

  • Seaside Invitational
  • 9/05/14 to 9/05/14
  • This was a great, but windy race. I finished in 1st out of 217 senior runners with a time of 14:44.1. Our school finished 2nd overall for boys. My time was also the fastest overall for the whole invitational. This race was run in 10-15 mph winds. A good start to the season, excited to see how our team will run at Woodbridge Invitational next week.
  • Camp/Event
  • Marmonte League Finals
  • 5/09/14 to 5/09/14
  • A great competition, came in 3rd place with a time of 9:34 which allowed me to qualify for CIF prelims. I am the only long distance runner from my school to go and I feel proud to represent our distance team. I am happy with this finish since I knew the seniors I was running against were our biggest competitors all year.
  • Camp/Event
  • Ventura County Championships
  • 5/02/14 to 5/02/14
  • Ran against Ventura County's best runners. Came in 2nd behind senior runner from Westlake High School. I finished with a PR of 9:33, this qualifies me for Marmonte League Finals so I am excited to move on. It was a good race, nice track conditions. A little held up in the first lap with the pile of runners sticking too close together, but was able to get around them after the first turn. Working on a quick break out start to get a better position off the start.
  • Camp/Event
  • Maurice Green Invitational
  • 3/22/14 to 3/22/14
  • I came in 2nd overall in the mile with a 4:32 time and 2nd overall in the 3200 with a 9:43 time.
  • Camp/Event
  • League Competition
  • 3/20/14 to 3/20/14
  • I PR'd in the 1600m with a 4:29.73 time.
  • Camp/Event
  • Ventura County Invitational
  • 3/15/14 to 3/15/14
  • In the 4x1600 we placed 2nd overall with my split time being 4:32. In the DMR, we placed 4th and my split was 4:30.
  • Camp/Event
  • Agoura/El Camino Pre-season meet
  • 3/13/14 to 3/13/14
  • I ran a 4:32 1600m. I won by a .04 sec margin coming from behind.
  • Camp/Event
  • CIF-Southern Section Finals
  • 11/23/13 to 11/23/13
  • My team finished 8th in Division 2. Determined to help get my team to state, I ran a course P.R. of 15:22, after having a course P.R. on the same course the week before at CIF- Southern Section Prelims. I shaved 15 seconds off from Prelims. My mind was not focused on going to State as a individual, but rather as a team. When I found out about my achievement I was shocked, but also disappointed I hadn't run 5 seconds faster.
  • Camp/Event
  • Seaside Invitational
  • 9/06/13 to 9/06/13
  • I set a goal to break 15 min at Seaside Invitational. My first meet out, I achieved my goal coming in 3rd place for the junior runners with 257 junior entrants representing 37 schools with a time of 14:58.6, just 4 seconds off the lead runner.
  • Camp/Event
  • CIF Prelims
  • I ran the 3200 in 9:36. Though not my fastest time, the competition was solid and I ran well in form and timing. Still working on evening out my laps. Came out well, ran my second lap well, slowed in my third and then was back on track and finished strong.

Training

  • XC and Track
  • 2 years
  • Have run for my high school since 9th grade, making Varsity my first year. Just named as one of the Captains for the boys team. We had a casual team and coach system for my 1st year and a half of running, but now have a new coach with solid goals and training in place. We are very excited as a team to take our division by storm and do well both on and off the course.
  • Jon Geiger, Private Coach
  • 2 years
  • Began training with Jon Geiger in May of 2013, he is a mental and physical sport-specific conditioning specialist - we work together for maximizing my performance and achieiving at the highest level both mentally and physically. He is helping me not only on the field, but off to balance my priorities with running and school - since running up to this past summer was always my love and now I am focusing on being a student-athlete - a complete runner - so I can achieve at the highest level in everything I do. He also helps me train to not only be physically, but mentally strong when I run.
  • XC and Track
  • 3 years
  • Our training is continuing at a very high level. We have set lofty goals and are rising as a school to be noticed in our league. We are definitely on track to reaching our goals individually and as a team this year. I continue to train with a mental coach who helps with stretching regimens, mental conditioning and overall core strengthening which adds to the training I receive from school. We continue to run daily, long and short distances, speed work, gym conditioning and an occasional rest day :)
  • Collin Pratt, Head Coach
  • 2 years
  • Coach Pratt took over training our team a year ago, and it has made all of the difference in our performance, attitude and preparation. His goal is to take our team to State and win within the next four years. I am excited for whatever part I can play in these goals, we are already excelling!!!
