Sam Brown '15 Recruiting Profile

My name is Sam Brown and I have been running track since I was in the 8th grade. My main events are High Jump and Long Jump. Once I began jumping, my heights were among the highest in my age group, but that was never enough for me. I have always been the first one to the track and the last one to leave during the season. I do everything I can to better my abilities by weight lifting to improve my explosiveness, waking up at 6:00 almost every morning to go practice form on each of my jumps, and sprint training to help improve my approaches. During my entire middle and high school career as a track athlete I have not had the privilege of a jumping coach to help me with form or technique. To compensate, I bring a video recorder to every practice so I can watch my own form and judge myself based on what I have seen other accomplished athletes do. This is necessary because I have always been the only dedicated jumper on my team, so no teammates can assist me in this way. During my sophomore year I reached my all-time high school goal height of 6’0”. I soon realized that I could achieve much more than what I had thought. This past year I improved my height to 6’4” to place 7th in the ASHAA Track & Field State Championships. My goal for my final year in high school is to reach 6’11” in high jump and 24’ in long jump, and to become a state champion in both events.  I feel I would greatly benefit any collegiate team because of my innate ability to lead, and because of the examples for hard work I would demonstrate to other athletes.
