For the high school student-athlete with tremendous men’s tennis skills but lacking the GPA and ACT scores to enroll at an NCAA D1, D2 or D3 college or an NAIA college, there is NJCAA tennis as the clear option. Junior college men’s tennis offers the player a way to improve grades while still participating in the sport. The two-year college can salvage a high school player’s tennis desire and bring him into eligibility for higher level tennis colleges. Coaches at Junior College tennis programs are not only judged by the talent they develop in players. They work diligently to improve the GPAs of the players in order to have them eligible to transfer to D1, D2, D3 or NAIA programs.
There are 61 NJCAA tennis programs for the men’s sport. The number of scholarships may vary per school, but the NJCAA allows a total of nine scholarships. Of these scholarships, three can be full scholarships (tuition, books, room and board). The other six scholarships are for tuition only.
