My desire to play college tennis stems from my passion for the sport. I have been playing since I was five years old, and I cannot imagine life without tennis. There is nothing quite like the feeling of walking onto the court ready to give it my all, whether it’s just practice or the match of a lifetime. The tennis court is my natural habitat, and I want to be able to pursue this passion at the highest level in college.
I have a strong work ethic and currently train four to five times a week, going to drills, private lessons, and conditioning and fitness. From watching the greatest players I try to incorporate what they do that makes them so successful, into my game.
I have also had the opportunity to serve as the first singles player on my high school team. This team experience, which is a key aspect of college tennis, has improved my game and changed my mental approach to tennis. On the team, I have had to learn how to be a good leader and a good supporter for my teammates. While tennis is usually a solitary sport, it is great to know that you have the support of your teammates, but it also adds responsibility because your result isn’t the only one dependent on your performance. This experience would definitely help me in the college setting because I would already have exposure to the team atmosphere and expectations.
