Personal Statement

I am genuinely quite a gentle person and was not so outgoing, but through tennis I became very confident and mentally tougher and physically stronger. My collegiate goals became to achieve success in academics and to improve my tennis skills to an even higher level. Now my goal after graduation is to become successful in the real business world using my mental toughness, which I developed through tennis, and use my knowledge that I will for sure develop in the next four years in college. I believe my characteristic strength which sets me apart other recruits are that I am always very patient, very calm under various situations, and have high discipline. These characters are also my weapons in my tennis game because I never lose mental control on the court and I am always very focused. I am also confident that I have more experience and knowledge of this sport than most other recruits since I was quite fortunate to have had many chances to play in USTA tournaments including USTA Junior Team Tennis Nationals through my parents’ support, and also was really blessed to play in the Japanese nationals that I know for sure not many people have a chance to go. I also would like to point out that I am not only able to focus on my tennis game but am able to multi task and focus on my academics as well. I now belong to one of the finest and prestigious public schools in the country, Palos Verdes High School, and this school gave me a chance to take a lot of classes that not many schools offer such as AP comp government, AP art history, AP government, AP economics and many other advanced college level courses. I believe that if I go to your school and join your tennis team, I cannot only benefit to the team as a good player but also as a good teammate to bring out strength in my fellow teammates. I am confident to truly benefit the school athletically and academically because I have a strong desire to succeed in both tennis and academics.
