Personal Statement

I am 5ft. 9in. tall and weigh 168 pounds. I consider myself a sprint freestyler. My club team is sprint training oriented and we place a lot of attention on our personal goals by swimming many mentally and physically challenging test sets throughout the non High School season. I have been swimming competitvely since 2nd grade on a summer team. I started training at LRST (my club team) when I was in 7th grade. I pride myself in my good grades and ability to stand out academically in my class. My most important accomplishments have been qualifying for Districts every year of High School. I was projected to go to States my Sophomore and Junior year but things didn't work out. I have used that experience as a driving force and determination to get myself to States this upcoming season. I have earned 1st team All-Conference in the 100Y Free, 200Y free, and 200 Medley Relay. My sophomore and junior year I was the team MVP. I can offer leadership, dedication, and an open minded sense to a team. Throughout my swimming, I have made it my personal act to wait for all the other swimmers to finish the race and start getting out of the pool before I get out. I am extremely dedicated to this sport. I swim all year with my club team and make it my goal not to miss a single practice. I have always had an open mind in terms of receiving criticism. I have tried my best to gather information from as many sources as possible and try out all their techniques and decide which way of doing something works for me. I have a personal trainer for strength training and I went to a specialized stroke technician with the goal of becoming the best that I can be. I don't settle for mediocre, I keep reaching and pushing myself to be the most excellent that I can be. This summer I was the 8 and under and 12 and under coach for a summer recreational swim team. It is my desire to attend school on the East Coast or Southern part of the US. I enjoy the climate of the South but also want some diversified weather. The East Coast appeals to me because of its tradition of academic excellence and major cities. I am looking for a medium sized school with the world class facilities of a large school but specialized attention of professors like that of a small school. Also, I want to attend a school that has a good connection to the rest of the world and an excellent study abroad program. However, I am open to different types of schools. I am interested in majoring in International Relations or International Business. My goal as an athlete is to be able to compete and be successful at the highest level possible for me. I want to be able to be proud of my successes and take away a sense of achievement and satisfaction from my collegiate experience.
