Swimming on a team is of the utmost importance to me. It's been a defining characteristic of my identity for over a decade, and I have no intention of having that change. I’ve been competing since 1st grade, am better at long distance than sprints, and started training at 12 in open water so I could compete in Olympic team triathlons with my dad and our friend.
Had I not spent 30 hours after school last spring training to work for the Chicago Park District this summer (where I logged 330 hours) or spent nearly as much time sophomore year earning Red Cross Lifeguarding Certifications (so I could work that summer for my varsity swim coach), my GPA would probably be higher. But I loved both jobs and don't regret those decisions.
I was All City one year and at most high school meets swim the 500 free, 200 IM, and various relays. I'm looking forward to 2015 when I'll be co-captain of my varsity water polo team. Before high school the breast stroke was my best stroke - got 3 top-10 times at AG State - and I hope to improve it in college.
I’d like to swim for a liberal arts college with a strong writing program where I can study a wide variety of subjects to reinforce my writing. My times may be under the mark of schools that interest me most, but I still have time to improve and have full confidence that (now that I've switched club teams from one based around wellness, always important, to one focused mainly on competition, always fun) I’ll reach my goals.
