Sports has always been a part of my life ever since I started competitively swimming at the age of four to martial arts at the age of seven to soccer and track and field. I have played at many different levels ranging from recreation soccer to playing competitively for Springfield Youth Club to participating in the regional Junior Olympics for my 4x100 meter relay team. Soccer is my main interest even though I enjoy other sports such as tennis, golf, basketball and many more. I have had experience in these sports having participated in many during physical education at school to signing up for personal lessons.
Currently, I play on a travel soccer team, Springfield Youth Club (SYC), where I play the position left wing and center, which I enjoy immensely. Playing with SYC has allowed me to develop close friendships with other players from the northern Virginia area. Soccer as well as other sports has taught me how to be a team player, built my confidence level to tackle challenges I encounter in my daily life, help put winning as well as losing into perspective, and provides consistent exercise throughout the week to release built up energy. A unique skill I have is my speed that allows me to execute certain maneuvers and travel with the soccer ball quicker than other players when I get the opportunity.
I have always had strong parental involvement with my academics and sports. My family also has supported my involvement in music whereby I played the piano for four years starting at the age of four then I transitioned to the violin then to the melody bells and snare drums. I’m now in advanced band in school and has played the trumpet for three years now. Like sports, music was engrained in me at an early age.
My academic goals in high school are to enroll in advanced/honor courses and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Grades serve as a strong indicator in terms of which colleges and universities will accept me so it’s important that my academic standards continue to remain high. I am currently taking honors science and history and hope to move into honors courses for English and math next year. I am sure that my path to achieving my academic goals will have challenges, surprises, and obstacles which I will have to overcome, but knowing this in advance helps me to realize I will have to continue to apply myself.
