Jack Shea '12 Recruiting Profile

I am a 6'1", fast and strong soccer player, and I'm a very strong defender, but  I think my major asset is that I can play whatever position the coach needs.  I'm not focused on individual glory, I just want to help my team win.

In addition to being a starter for my high school team for all 4 years, I've played for several premier teams here in Vermont.  I played for Capital Soccer Club from age 8 - 12, Far Post Soccer Club, from age 12 - 15, and Nordic Soccer Club from age 15 on.     I'm usually a center defender or right back.

My high school coach, Joe Ferrada, plays me at the center mid position.  From that position I've been able to make and assist in a lot of goals. Even as a freshman, I scored the winning goal in the 2008 Vermont State Championship.  My NCSA video shows me scoring a lot of goals for my high school team, but I've also been able to score some goals from my central defender position with my Nordic Soccer Club because I can jump really high for headers on corner kicks.     

I attended ODP Region I camp in Pennsylvannia about a year ago.  At the Region I camp I was the only Vermont boy in my age group (1994) invited to attend the ODP call-back camp.   

Although it's fun scoring goals, I am perfectly happy to play defense.  I have been a Captain on nearly every soccer team I've been a part of, so I know the importance of leadership, hard work, and listening to my coach.  I am not looking for any particular size school.  Big or small, D1 or D3, I just want a school where I feel at home with my teammates. 

I would prefer to stay in New England for college, but I'd be willing to look at a school outside of New England if it felt right.  I do not want to attend a school that is predominantly one religious faith since I want to experience a lot of diversity. 

I would like a college or university where I can major in business or economics.  I like math and I enjoy coming up with creative ideas for a business.  I think my ability to come up with creative ideas helps me on the soccer pitch, too, because I am constantly thinking of new ways to move the ball upfield.  You have to be creative sometimes just to thread the ball between two defenders.
