Personal Statement

My name is Harrison Clark, and I am a student at Palmetto Scholars Academy in Charleston, South Carolina.

I am an Eagle Scout in Troop 79, an honor I received after spending years working for the troop and giving back to the community. When not hiking across the Southeast, my troop and I worked as a unit to give back to the community. Recently, we have repainted local churches, volunteered at events such as races for local charities, and rebuilt fences and structures. When we work on these projects, we work just as a soccer team would; an organized, cohesive effort to accomplish a common goal. My time in Scouts has shaped who I am today and has made me into a capable, independent leader who can take control and work with many different types of people.

Although I generally take lead on situations, I am also very coachable and respectful, which I base on my upbringing. I was raised in a home with my mother, father, and grandmother, where respect and love for all was a requirement. I was taught to respect everyone, even if I was not respected by them. Along with being pushed to do well in sports, which I have been involved in since a 3-year old, academics always has been a major part of my life. I have stayed on the honor roll since elementary school, and I attend the only gifted and talented middle and high school in South Carolina. The curriculum is set at an accelerated pace, and I began taking online classes at a local college sophomore year. Over my junior and senior years at Palmetto Scholars Academy, I will continue my dual-enrollment at Trident Technical College, as well as completing a Trident Apprenticeship where at the end of my senior year, I will receive an associates degree in pre-nursing in addition to my diploma. I traveled to Clemson University in 7th grade to take the Biology Merit Exam, where I scored 16th out of hundreds of students my age. I went back to Clemson during my Freshman year and retook it, and placed within the top ten of all students that took it. I have always been told to try my hardest at everything I do and I believe it has shown in my athletic, scouting, and academic success.

I strive to play at a collegiate level of soccer, as well as attending a college that will fit my educational needs. My playing options are very open, and relocation is not an issue. After college, I want to either continue playing or become an anesthesiologist in the United States Navy. Soccer is my love, and I am excited to see what the future brings me.
