2012 1st Team All-Catholic Selection
Hi Coach,
My name is Ryan Sandell. I would like to thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me and what I can offer your school both on and off the field. I am a 6'1" 175 lb, Goalkeeper. Take a look at my video footage and let me know what you think!
I am currently a student-athlete at St. Joseph's Preparatory school in Philadelphia, PA. As the Varsity Soccer GK during my Senior year, I was selected 1st Team GK for the All Philadelphia Catholic League. I started and played in all 19 games with a GAA of 0.89 and 10 Clean Sheets. I was instrumental in helping our team make it to the Philadelphia Catholic League Semi-Finals. I was one of NJ ODP's Goalkeepers for the last 2 years, winning Region 1 two summers ago. Following that, I tried out and earned a roster spot with Match Fit Chelsea's U17/U18 USSF Development Academy Team. Due to the fact that they signed 3 GK's, and after discussing with my coach about my lack of playing time, having played only 1 in 11 games, I decided that to truly develop as a player I needed to play more in game situations. After much thought, I asked and received a transfer to a high-level club team on which I started and played every game. Not only did I improve greatly in the last 3-5 months, but more college coaches have been able to evaluate me and see if I am a fit for their programs. This spring/summer generated a lot of interest from all NCAA Divisions. I am constantly working to improve and the results thus far have begun to show.
In addition to soccer, I am very involved in community service and devoted to excelling in the classroom. I can offer your Team and your College both Athletic and Academic excellence and will lead by example with strong convictions and true character. Through participating in my school's Community Service Corps, I have learned to be a leader when I need to be and when to take orders from others. Also, I have earned the respect of my teammates by being selected captain on my Freshman team and Junior Varsity team and have learned what it takes to be an athletic leader and how to deal with the pressure that one can be put under when they are cast in that role.
Based on the fact that I am currently attending one of the most academically rigorous schools in the Philly-metro area, am the starting Varsity goalkeeper for a school in the very competitive Philadelphia Catholic League, and having had a high level of success at the ODP, Club and High School Levels, I feel I will succeed at almost any school in the country, but I am looking to attend the school that I feel is the best fit for me. I want to attend a school where I can play soccer competitively and be challenged academically. If you think your school would be a great fit for me and you, please send me an email and I will get in touch with you shortly.
Thank you,
Ryan Sandell
