Alexander Ward '20 Recruiting Profile

    As a freshman I had the privilege to play on Oregon State Title-winning Catlin Gabel soccer team. That State Championship has made me hungry for more titles, and has intensified specific goals: consistent improvement of strength and skill, and ever-greater soccer achievements. This year, as a sophomore, I was Catlin's starting attacking center midfielder. This role has further developed my vision, passing, and technical abilities - aspects of the game that I may excel at now, but can always propel to a new level.

    Currently, I am part of Rose City Prep (a top-tier technical training group) and Rose City Futsal (a futsal academy team that won Worlds in my age group a few years ago). These opportunities elevate my game and let me devote much of my weekends to the beautiful game. Earlier this year, I was one of the 16 players selected by USA futsal as to compete against other nations in Barcelona. I chose not to go to Barcelona because I attend an academically rigorous college preparatory school (Catlin Gabel) and understand the consequences of missing a full week of school of classes late in the term.

    For years, I have competed with the local ODP program. Prior to ODP, I was part of its training program for younger athletes. In the 2016-17 ODP season, I was the starting attacking center midfielder in the May ODP Friendship Cup, a tournament of Northwest ODP teams and academies (including the Timbers, Sounders, Whitecaps, and Earthquakes academies). 

    College will be a remarkable and special opportunity to take my intellect, character, and game to levels I may not easily imagine now.  I look forward to the new heights of challenge and accomplishment both on and off the field.
