My name is Jalen Terry and I have been playing on my school varsity team for three years as a starter playing in the midfield position. Over the years, my coaches have played me in the center midfield position mainly, but they have moved me around to other positions when they feel we are losing the ball too much. Over the last three years, it has been a struggle for our team because we have had three brand new head coaches. Our school team also plays in one of the hardest leagues in Ohio- in the last five years, three of the teams have won the state championship.
I am looking for a college that has very good mathematics and educational programs. My goal is to become a math teacher as well as a very good soccer player. As an up and coming freshman I would love to be able to play in a competitive league, and I would like to get some playing time or even a starting position. My goal is to graduate from college and go into teaching high school to help out kids get through a very difficult stage in their lives, as well as coaching soccer at that level.
Things that make me different from all of the other recruits is that I am a very easy going guy, who is easy to teach and takes criticism very well. I am out going and love to play soccer either if its by myself, with a large group, or competitively. I try my very hardest in everything I put my mind to and if the coaches tell me that I am doing something wrong, I ask them how to do it better and try to incorporate the new style into my play. I like to hangout with diverse groups of people so that I can experience new things, as well as go off by myself and experience new things that way. I am very independent and I try to do things alone at first and then I will go for help if I know I won't be able to do it by myself. In athletics, I am very good at reading the field and finding the openings in the defense. I am a very defense minded player but I love to get forward and try to score when I can. I am not the fastest player but I am very quick to get around players and to close people down. I am a big guy and I use my body size to my advantage. I can go up and win balls out of the air which makes me a threat on free kicks as well as getting the ball out of my own box. I can use my size to hold people off the ball and find the best pass route. I am very talented on the field because of all the positions I can play. During the last school season I played primarily on the midfield but if my coaches needed more support on defense they would tell me to play center back, and if they want my firepower to try and score they would put me at the striking position to try and hold the ball up or to even turn and take on the defense. My academics are fairly good for what my school offers. My school offers AP classes so you can get college credit, but all of our normal classes are honor classes. Since our classes are honors the work is more demanding and is worth more than a regular class at another school.
I look forward to finding a program that allows me to play collegiately at a competitive level and to earn my teaching degree.
