Early on I relied on athletics and speed to be a strong player but was not a starter when I started club. We were a nationally ranked team with a deep bench and I wanted to be a starter. I worked with my coach to figure out the areas I needed to improve and worked tons of extra training sessions and summers. I eventually combined my athletics and skills to become a starter and versatile player filling in many positions on the field. Our coach has told me many times he uses me as the example with younger players of how hard work can pay off.
My mindset to learn new things and seek to understand the coaching that will make me better, allows me to easily learn new positions, strategies and tactics. I have played most every position in midfield and defense and a variety of formations. I apply this “will to grow”, to my academics as well and have pushed myself going into a new school system my freshman year by taking a variety of Honors Classes.
I work hard to be a leader but also be a good teammate. When we are up, keeping the team focused and when something goes wrong bringing strong communication to keep everyone energized. While I have always worked hard at sports and school, my family and friends are also important and have worked to have good balance in my life.
In life, school and on the field I am a very calm, even person. My calm collective tone helps me to calm my team down and be organized when in distress and make smart decisions instead of panicking. I pride myself on making the right play, understanding the strategy of a game and never wanting to concede anything on the field. My stubbornness along with my calm nature, helps me to stay motivated to do everything I can to perfection and be the best on the field.
If I put my mind to anything, I can accomplish it. By learning never to give up as a kid (academics and sports) and working harder and harder to reach my goals, I have continued to improve and never want to stop growing as a player and a person. My heart and will have been the difference in so many parts of my life and it truly comes out on the field when I play.
