Thank you for taking the time to view my profile and I hope it give you some insight to who I am as a person and what direction I am going with my academic and athletic future. Our fall 2017 fall soccer season has just ended after losing our first 3A sectional championship match to a very talented Castle team.
As a sophomore this year I started JV but was given an opportunity to start or play in 9 varsity matches. In the 428 minutes this season I achieved a 2.056 GAA, 1.6 saves per game, three wins two of which were shutouts, 3 losses and .6 save percentage. The three losses were to 29th ranked Floyd Central, 18th ranked Lake Central and Paul Laurence Dunbar from Kentucky. The experience gained this year as a sophomore has helped greatly improve my overall skill set. I think everyone can agree there is no substitute for getting in the goal and competing at a higher level to identify your strengths and where you have opportunity for improvement.
Since our school only offers fall boys soccer I have several months that will be dedicated to refining my technical skills and targeted muscle group weight training. I will be playing on our local travel team (Indiana Southwest Futbol Club) this spring as I have for the past few years. In 2017 we played up two age groups and finished 2nd overall in our division.
On the field I am very vocal and feel the communication I have with my team is very good. I believe positive reinforcement is very important and try to recognize my guys when they make a good play or decision. Barking commands at your field players with the hope of being heard is not what I consider “good” communication.
It can’t all be great so here is what I will be working on in the off season. Goal kicks. While I can get the ball to midfield or slightly past I have not been able to get into a repeatable routine. Part of this is because of my large shoe size which forces me to change the approach and body geometry to strike the ball cleanly. My punts are consistent however I would like to tweak my form so I can start striking lower to increase “line drive” kicks for maximum control and distance. I believe both will be worked out in the next 6 months with some outside help. I plan on attending the IU soccer camp again this summer, if I can find a GK specific camp I will hit one or two of those as well.
I enjoy working with my hands specifically turning wood bowls, pen making, general wood working and metal working. I work at my father’s company after school and during the summer. Last summer I did a lot of metal machining and made custom tools for the technicians in one of the departments. I also wash cars, general custodial work and whatever needs to be done. I am NOT afraid of digging into projects, getting dirty and am usually the first one to pitch in and help. I have been known to procrastinate from time to time but pretty sure I’m not the only 16-year-old ever to be found guilty of this!
In school I enjoy marketing and business classes as well as my shop/engineering. I am carrying a 3.32 GPA currently and just took the PSAT. I plan on taking the SAT next year after I have completed a few of the courses that are part of the general test. I have not decided what I want to major in at this time but I am very fond of the sports entertainment and market class I am taking and doing very well in. I am sort of leaning towards a business path right now but since there are more options out there I have time to find something that works with my long-term goals.
