My name is Steven Albers. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old starting in a recreational league in Jacksonville. I began competitive soccer in Jacksonville at 10 and moved over to the Springfield Area Soccer Association (SASA) team in Springfield, IL at 12. The summer of 2014 our team placed third in the President's Cup in South Carolina.
Playing with the SASA team developed my skills both on and off the ball, and I also became a stronger player mentally. As a sophomore, I decided I wanted to take my game to the next level and tried out for and made the St. Louis Gallagher NPL team. Unfortunately, I had to have surgery in March on my shoulder due to a torn labrum from a basketball injury. Thankfully, I was able to play with the SLSG Elite 16s & 17s, and will be a part of the SLSG Elite 18s after my high school season is complete.
I am a three sport athlete (soccer, kick for our football team, and point guard for our basketball team) so I have to make the most of my time and stay focused to keep my GPA up. I know how to work hard both on the field and off. Both my sister and my brother are in college right now, and a college education is important to me.
I am a member of my school's student government, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and my church's youth group. I attend student government meetings weekly and attend FCA meetings as practices allow. I have been involved with youth group since I was in 7th grade. I feel I bring those values to my play and to my team.
I know that with the right college I will not only get the education I need but also be a player who can support his team. I want to play soccer in college because I have loved soccer since I was 4 years old and I enjoy being part of a team. I want to continue to play at the highest level possible as long as I can.
