Michael Hurley '12 Recruiting Profile

Freshman year I went out for the soccer team because I was always passionate about the sport and I thought of myself as an exceptional player. The truth is I knew soccer as a game, and I happened to be pretty good at that game. That year I was introduced to a different game called life by Coach Ward and Coach Allie. This is not to say I have lost any ounce of passion for the game. Soccer remains a life and death situation in my mind, with the only statistic carrying significance being the W-L column. The most important thing that I have taken from these coaches and my high school soccer experiences is to cherish the now. This past year, my junior year, our team came together and we were able to compete and thrive in a loose atmosphere. The team became a family and this closeness enhanced our play on the field. Then the season ended and I was thrown back into the real world of where to go to college and what to study. Honestly, I do not know where I am going to end up. I would prefer to stay in the midwest area, but am also open to other places if the right opportunity comes along. A private small-midsize school seems to me to be the best fit for me, but again I will not limit myself to that criteria. The main priority in my search for a college is a high quality of education that will challenge and eventually propel me to a successful career. Soccer in college is the next priority. The chance to play for a school against great competition is a dream of mine. The college that can provide an environment that contains a top notch education, a competitive soccer team and a welcoming student body is the best fit for me.
