Hi my name is Matt Ferris and I am currently a senior in High School and soccer has been a passion of mine since I was 7 years old. As a kid I played several sports but I always loved soccer more than any other sport. One reason why I love soccer is because it was the most challenging sport that I played as a kid. Because of that challenge it kept me going and wanting to overcome any obstacles and become a better player. This past season I achieved All Conference, All-State honorable mention and most valuable player on my high school team which helps me feel like I am getting closer to being a great player. Another challenge that has somewhat impacted my love of soccer, more off the field or after practice, is that I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of 9. Diabetes never has really affected my soccer abilities but more my life around soccer and just like soccer it became another challenge I want to overcome. I have always wanted to be just like everyone else and not let anything get in my way. Playing soccer as a Type 1 diabetic has always made me feel like there really is nothing in my way. Not only is soccer important in my life but education is and always has been important to me. Ever since I was a freshman I have always dreamed of getting a great education along with a competitive soccer career on the collegiate level. Playing soccer and getting good grades can be a challenge but I have always been able to keep up with my work and still be able to get all the proper training necessary to improve. Playing soccer at the next level is something I have dreamed about for a long time and I can’t wait to achieve my goals.
