Personal Statement

Hi! Welcome to my soccer athletic profile page. My name is Hyunwoo Park (Daniel). I have been playing soccer since I was 7 and love the game. Currently, I play for Atlanta Fire United and am part of their select program. I am a freshman at Lanier High School in Sugar Hill, Georgia and currently enrolled in one of the four academies offered in Lanier called CDAT. This program offers engineering classes as one of the core classes and also uses our knowledge in subjects such as science, math, engineering, technology, and language arts and have a major project for each unit. I have big aspirations in sports and academics that I believe I can accomplish through hard work, integrity, maintaining good relations, and a little bit of good luck and already am in the process of doing.

Leadership

I believe being a leader is imperative in life. As a leader I try my best to lead in humility, remember that I am not the strongest, trust others, live with integrity/commitment, and be about others and not me. I have had a lot of experience in leadership positions throughout my life. In the past, I served captain for my soccer team, led Lanier Middle School as student president in 8th grade and student secretary in 6th grade and was part of the 28 peer leaders enrolled in the peer leadership program at LMS. I led programs such as student council meetings every month and also meetings for our student officers, led part of the new 6th grade welcoming party, and many more. Currently as a freshman, I am in DECA and am going to the state competition for 2018 held in downtown Atlanta, participate in Student Council as a general member, and also am a worship leader at my local church Zion Korean United Methodist Church playing drums for the Adult service and singing and playing the guitar for the Youth Ministry. Also, I have been selected to be one of the few ambassadors for Sugar Hill, Georgia and now help represent the face of Sugar Hill as a youth. I volunteer at events, attend two meeting monthly, and overall reach out to the community through my actions and words.I have attended leadership meeting such as the 2017 Leadership Symposium at Lanier High School where businessmen, army officers, and more engaged us, attended the Lanier Leadership Conference as a 6th and 8th grader, was invited to a leadership meeting at Sugar Hill and many more.

Soccer

Soccer has always been part of my life. Ever since I watched the 2010 World Cup, I have fallen in love with the beautiful game. I began playing in recreational games at Atlanta Fire United and now have been playing in the Select and Super Y program for two years. As a winger, I practice my ball handling skills, crossing, cutting in for a shot with both my right and left, and my stamina. I was invited to the Super Y scouting event held in Florida in my first year in Super Y, but my plans were derailed later on as I fractured my right wrist. I watch soccer games frequently as practice to put later in my own game and idolize Tottenham Hotspur’s ace Son Heung Min. Currently at the moment, I am getting ready for Varsity High School joining the conditioning program every Tuesday and Thursday and also go to the United Fútbol Academy’s prep camp for high school ball. I am very flexible as a player and am a big influencer on and off the field. Through my hard work and discipline, I believe that I can go through the process of maturity and soon play at D1 college level.

Academics

I believe that academics are very important in life and opens doors to even more opportunities and relationships. As a 8th grader, I began to take high school credit taking Spanish I, Chemistry, and Accelerated Algebra/Geometry. I finished with a strong 4.0 GPA with a cumulative average of 96. As a freshman, I have been working harder, smarter, and stronger. I am taking Accelerated Geometry and Algebra II, Gifted Language Arts, Chemistry II, Intro to Business Technology, Foundations of Engineering/Intro to Tech, AP Human Geography and have completed Health and Physical Ed during the summer. I have strong interest in engineering (although I am still figuring out) and also Christian Education. To check out my Engineering portfolio, go https://hpark214.wixsite.com/d10iel/portfolio. My plans are to go to an Ivy League College as an undergrad and play college soccer and create my goals from there. (One step at a time.) As a freshman, I have maintained a 4.0 unweighted GPA and have a cumulative grade of 99.08. to I believe that I can finish stronger with Finals coming up. I find learning very interesting along with some hardships and love school because of all the relationships I have with friends and teachers.

Failures

I have experienced ten thousand failures in my life. However, it is crucial in life to fail and come back stronger. Whether major or minor, I have learned a lot from my experience. For example, one subject I struggle with in school is math. Math has been a hard and very challenging subject for me and I have learned to put in extra effort into it and still keep a 4.0. Through this experience I have learned that things require work and to put in effort in everything I do. Also, I have learned to distinguish confidence and arrogance and have learned to be humble with myself and not center the world around me. I believe one of the reasons I came to the Lanier cluster was to have a fresh identity. I have done a great job keeping healthy relationships with teachers, pastors, and my friends. Last, one of my projects at the moment is maximizing my talents and gifts. I have and still am battling procrastination and focus more on investing in my future. For example, I am learning to become even better at drums and guitar and maximize my gifts.

Goals and Aspirations

All in all, I have big aspirations in life. Going to D1 college, maintaining a 4.0 my whole high school year, and being a strong leader are just a small bit of my plans for my great life. I stand out and not blend in because of my whole hearted, genuine actions. I have great academics, strong morals, and a unique characteristic. I am a big influencer in the locker room and outside in my daily life and have great experience, qualities, and leadership. Through the battle of pain in discipline, hard work, integrity, and more I believe I can be the man I and others around me envision to become.
