Personal Statement

My name is Skyler Clark. At my high school, The Gunnery, I started on the Varsity Soccer team as a Sophomore playing right midfielder. I was also an active member of the Varsity Basketball team last year during the winter term, and to challenge myself in the spring, I tried out lacrosse for the first time, even though I had previously played baseball my entire life. I am extremely passionate about all the sports that I play, but soccer is the one that I have been most drawn to and I take it very seriously. I have been playing soccer since I was three years old. It is a sport that I know the ins and outs of. Wherever I played soccer I was almost always placed at center mid field and because of this my vision while playing is very good. During my Sophomore year I joined a nearby club team, FC Ponte, so that I could get even more soccer in. Although balancing my time between soccer and lacrosse was at first very hard, I loved every second of it. Currently I am switching between right midfield and right defense on my high school team, but I am happy to play wherever my coach needs me the most. I do consider myself one of the leaders on the team (recently, I was made captain of our team for the 2013 season) and I take every practice and game as an opportunity to better myself and help those around me. No matter what sport I am playing, I am constantly competing with myself and those that I am playing against in order to get better and to develop my skills. Playing at the college level has been a dream that I have carried with me since the time I joined my first travel team. It is an aspiration of mine that I hope to see fulfilled and I feel that I am both committed and competitive enough to get there. Although I would like to keep my options open academically, I am interested in some form of Engineering, specifically Biomedical Engineering. I take my academics seriously, and so far I have had no problems balancing them with my athletics. I made High Honor Roll throughout my entire sophomore year (and the first term of this junior year) and was also presented with a leadership award during one of the final ceremonies. I am currently taking three AP courses as a Junior and plan on taking even more next year. A scholarship would help ease the financial pressure of college for my parents and would be a major accomplishment for myself, as well. I am actively searching for a school that I feel best accomplishes my goals both athletically and academically and I am ready to put in all the work necessary to see these goals fulfilled.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
