Hello, I'm Nick Steer, goalkeeper of 3 years at Everton CT and for Ridgefield High School. I am excited to play at the college level and to compete at a high level. An aspect of the position that I like is leadership, I like being able to see the whole field and direct my team to control the flow of the game. Additionally, I like to combine the mental and physical areas of the game in order to read the opponent's intentions early to put myself in the best position to make a save. I am currently playing on a great run of form with no injury, enjoying a great season on two spring premier teams. In 21 games this spring I have 8 clean sheets and a .67 Goals Against Average.
With Everton I have received great coaching during my three seasons, and it is there, with specialized training from Goalkeeping Coach Leon Othen that I truly made the greatest improvements upon my skills. Right away at the club I had to compete hard for a starting position and I really enjoyed being teammates with kids I competed against in the school season
For Ridgefield High School I have a great class of players my age and the seasons have been fun and competitive. Coach Phil Bergen's program is well rounded and I have participated in playing, coaching and charity events. I lead my team to undefeated 1st in Division seasons both Freshman and Sophomore years and contributed to my varsity teams co-championship finish in the FCIAC competing for time with a strong senior goalkeeper. As the spring season is coming to a close I am starting pre-season training for the next season and I hope to lead my team to divisional and state championships this upcoming season.
I aspire to attend a school where I can play competitive level soccer that has a strong academic program to prepare for my career. I have worked hard throughout my high school career to attain high grades and test scores and I look forward to friendships and competition with my new teammates and doing all that I can to aid the team.
Update as of 11/17/13: We are CT State Champs! After losing in finals of FCIAC to unbeaten Greenwich, we played strong through the State tournament. The finals vs Glastonbury was epic. We went to two overtime periods and ended in a tie which made each team Co-Champions. RHS played a man down for the final 20 minutes of regular time, and all 30 minutes of overtime. I made 11 saves to help preserve our share of the Championship. Please see Danbury News Times coverage of the Qtrs, Semis and Finals.
