Personal Statement

I have played soccer since I was four years old, and club soccer since I was eleven.  My commitment to playing at a high level began when I was thirteen and participated in a tournament in Italy in which I competed against international academy teams.  My club team is CFC United 98/99 (regional NPL - New England Premier League) which has been state cup champion in Connecticut the last two years.  On my CFC teams I have been fortunate to be coached by three college coaches over the last five years:  Joe Barroso, Head Coach at Sacred Heart University, Shaun Green, Head Coach at Central Connecticut State University and David Kelly, Assistant Coach at Central Connecticut. This has been a great experience for me because they have allowed me to grow as a player by emphasizing the importance of mental approach, commitment and tactical awareness.

I have most often played outside midfielder, but I am a versatile player and have also frequently played center mid, defensive mid, outside back and occasionally attacking mid.

I would describe my style as fluid with pace.  I am comfortable with the ball under pressure in tight spaces, and I have the acceleration and speed to intercept balls and make runs to beat defenders.  I am a strong two way player on the wing and I am effective at tracking back in addition to being a threat going forward.  I also take pride in my passing ability.  My coaches have described me as "tenacious" because I never give up on a play .  I am unselfish and will play any role needed to help the team be successful.  I like to lead by example and I am team captain this year.  I love soccer because when it is played well, as a true team sport with a connected flow, it is unlike any other sport.  My goal is to play for a program at a school that has active student life and support for athletics, and is also a good fit in terms of academics and access to real world experience in addition to the style of play.
