My goals as I pursue higher education as a student athlete are to gain and foster the requisite knowledge, experience, and ethics to be a successful professional as I prepare myself for the real world. Both in the classroom and on the field I consider myself a professional. I always strive to improve my skill set in order to be my best self. Academically I hope to earn a degree in English and Education with a possible minor or double major in Environmental Studies or Political Science, as I work to become a High School teacher.
In the classroom I feel most comfortable and engaged when I am thoroughly challenged. I have been and am currently enrolled in several AP classes including AP US History and AP Environmental Science which I earned "Student of the Year" honors for. During my sophomore year, I also earned the same honor for my AP European History class. I am a writer for the school newspaper and was awarded 'Rookie of the Year' my sophomore year. I am currently running for Editor in Chief of the Growling Wolverine for my upcoming Senior year. Additionally, I am Vice president and co-founder of the Stand Up To Cancer Club at my High School.
From an athletic standpoint I would characterize myself as a consistent player and leader with a hard work ethic who is constantly working to improve my skills. I have had the privilege of being a Captain on my club team (Pateadores -Mission Viejo) for two consecutive years as we placed 4th at the Tier 1 level in 2015 in the competitive Southern California Developmental Soccer League. This year my team also qualified to compete in the California Regional League. My club team has transitioned to the Pateadores Riverside club and I remain with the same coach for my final U18 year of competition.
In my Junior year I had the privilege to lead my High School team as a Captain of the Varsity team. I am a solid center back who has the ability to play bigger than my size. I try to play simple, build from the back, and keep shutouts. I am confident in my ability and I am always striving to learn more. No matter where I may end up I know I will work to contribute both on and off the field and will ultimately help my teammates win matches. This year I was honored with the Best Defender award and also, all league, 1st team honors. I have also worked hard in the classroom to earn a Scholar Athlete letter in addition to my Varsity letter. I will continue as the Captain in my Senior year on the Varsity team.
I appreciate your time and consideration and I look forward to speaking with you about the opportunities at your school.
Thank you,
Matthew Reagan
