I started playing Lacrosse my 5th grade year. It was a way to hang out with my friends and keep my conditioning up for my main sport, football. Playing my first year, I was a mid fielder and played defense. After my first year, I liked the sport enough to return the following spring.
Little did I know, my like of the game would end up turning into a love. I planned on starting my U13 year as a defensive man but my father had other plans for me.
Being a smaller club team, our previous goalie had decided to become a mid fielder. Since my dad, who was also a volunteer coach saw a need, he graciously offered for me to become goalie.
With mixed feelings, I stepped into the cage and begin a new adventure of learning. Thankfully, I have parents who were willing to get my extra help above and beyond what my coach could provide.
Because of the extra scrutiny of being a goalie, I challenged myself at every level to rise to the occasion. That was often hours of fundamental work, camps and extra hours of training when my friends were hanging out.
My hard work is paying off. I am a freshman, I am becoming the varsity team goalie for my high school. I am also the starting goalie for the 2021 412 Elite Travel Lacrosse Team, based out of Pittsburgh, PA.
I’ve learned the value of teamwork, good sportsmanship and always being ready to play. At this time I am uncertain of my academic path, but I will challenge myself academically and athletically. I have a commitment to excellence that is evident in my achievements. I know I will make a fantastic college student athlete.
