Roberto Wilhelm '20 Recruiting Profile

Hello my name is Roberto Wilhelm.  I am a goaltender currently playing single A hockey for the North Pittsburgh Wildcats organization, and Varsity hockey for Central Valley High School.  My Mom and Dad are huge hockey fans, so I watched a lot of NHL games with them at a young age, and became interested in playing the sport.  Robert Morris University had a youth house league, so we decided to give it a try.  One game our goalie couldn’t make the game so coach asked for a volunteer to get in goal, and I raised my hand.  From that first experience, I was hooked.  We won the game, as well as the year end playoff tournament two straight years, and from that moment on I knew that I had found my role.  I kept that loaner set of pads until I got my own and never looked back.

    Hockey is a passion of mine, but my main focus is academics.  Over the past two years I have maintained a 3.8-3.9 GPA in all honors classes, while playing for two hockey teams, football (last year) ,and baseball. Hockey has taught me a lot of life lessons.  As a goalie I have had to learn how to overcome pressure and fear, and channel that energy into a positive confidence. I have an ability for making the,”BIg Save at the Right Moment”, because I know I will and believe I will.  I have learned that if I have an “off” game, that it’s my responsibility to learn from my mistakes and improve.  I think that this is an attribute a person must have if they plan on reaching their goals and succeeding in life.  “One Day Better”, is my motto that I live by every day.  My dream is, that after highschool graduation, I can continue playing the sport that I love.  I wish to compete for a great university, that will prepare me academically for my future.  I know that with my can-do attitude, and willingness ability to outwork my competitors.  I can make my dreams reality.
