I have been playing hockey since I was 5 years old. I currently play for the Portledge Varsity Hockey team and for the PAL Junior Islanders. I’ve been playing on the varsity team since I was in 9th grade. Being the smallest and youngest player on the team has taught me how hard I have to work to be a dynamic hockey player. Playing on a varsity at such a young age has helped me grow into a great leader; it’s also taught me discipline. Not only am I a leader on the ice, but I am also a leader in the classroom. I am the assistant captain for the PAL Junior Islanders, and next year I will be the captain for the Portledge Varsity Hockey Team.
During the off-season I still play tons of hockey, but I also play for the varsity baseball team and the varsity soccer team. Playing different sports has helped me become more athletic and more well-rounded, ultimately helping me become a better hockey player. Playing these other sports have also helped my hand eye coordination and endurance which directly translate back to my main sport, hockey.
Each year my talents on the ice and off; have been increasing at a rapid pace and a main cause of that is my diversity in sports and my work ethic inside the classroom. I transferred from Harborfields School District to Portledge in 9th grade, and immediately found the curriculum much harder and more advanced. I struggled at first but got my head on straight and started taking school seriously, and saw improvement in my GPA. During the hockey season it is hard to manage all the school work and both hockey teams. Since I have been doing this for three years it has taught me great time management skills.
