Gregory Sauers '11 Recruiting Profile

My name is Gregory Sauers and I am currently playing for the Gillette Wild in the AWHL. I was signed and committed to be playing for the New Hampshire lakers in the EHL. However, the team folded last minute. Last year I played for the Laconia Leafs in the AJHL and the year before I played with the Junior A Dallas IceJets in the WSHL.   I have been playing hockey since the age of five (5).  My dream has been to play hockey for a living because it is the passion that has motivated me academically, socially, and on and off the ice for as long as I can remember. In the past 7 years I have been selected as a captain or assistant captain every year except one. As a defenseman for the WSHL Dallas IceJets two years ago,  I had 24 points in 42 games.  Five seasons ago my step mother developed cancer and I returned home to Florida to help care for her and was able to finish the season with the JrC SpaceCoast Hurricanes as a full time forward. I believe my hockey knowledge, ability to make plays, and size are suited for either position. I have been to the National Development camp as a Defenseman, but as I stated, I am comfortable playing almost anywhere on the ice.  Although my goal, like many others, is too raise the Stanley Cup, I know the realities of making the NHL. However, I am not giving up on that dream.  I do realize that an education is very important and hope to utilize my passion in hockey to attend a D1 or DIII college of my choice.   After my competitive Hockey career is over I would like to remain active in the game through various volunteer opportunities including coaching.
