Personal Statement

Coaches -

Unlike most goalies I took a different route to get to where I am.  I started playing goalie in inline hockey and didn’t move to ice hockey until I was 12, a 2nd year PeeWee, and it’s been an exciting challenge ever since. My hope is that this journey will allow me to play Junior / College hockey, and eventually the NHL.

Starting ice hockey as late as I did enabled me to play to my strengths of listening to my coaches, being open to try any suggestion and give it an honest effort, and work hard to catch up to my peers.  This work ethic, combined with being very coachable, allowed me to progress from PeeWee B to Midget Minor AA (as a 2nd year Bantam), in 3 short years.

This year, for reasons related to my mom’s cancer, I’m playing Midget Minor A and rather than looking at it as a setback, I look at it as a fresh challenge.  This team, like my previous teams, is struggling and rather than get frustrated, I look at it as a learning opportunity to get more shots each game and improve my skills.

This mental attitude, combined with my coach-ability and work ethic, is what I’ll bring to any team I’m fortunate enough to play for.

The academic program I’m in at Legend High School is called EDGE.  I had to be recommended by a teacher, fill out a questionnaire, and interview to be accepted.  EDGE is a unique program to Colorado and it’s based on each student owning their learning.

So many people have helped me get to where I am today I make it a point to give back by volunteering as an 8U goalie coach over the summer with Jeff Wolfe, my goalie coach, and helping my Dad with his 10U Rec inline hockey team, many of whom are paying goalie for the first time.  Watching the progress these new goalies make is its own reward and my goal is to instill the same passion for the position that I have in these new goalies.

In closing I’d like to thank you for taking the time to research me as a player and I look forward to being a goalie for your team.
