My name is Derek Heuges and I currently play on the 18U A Beach City Lightning travel team in Anaheim, California. I also play on the Bishop Amat/UC Academy High school team because our High school does not have a hockey team. I have been recruited to play on a couple of teams in the AA divisions but due to lack of players at that level the teams have folded so I have always just played up. I am 16 years old, hard working and dedicated.
I do not really have a certain College or University in mind at this time; I am leaving my options open and really want to play hockey at this level. Hockey is my life; I eat, breath and sleep hockey. I am on the ice every single day of the week. My goal is to try to get a full scholarship that allows me to play hockey for a great college team and eventually go to the AHL and see where that leads me.
As a goalie I have earned awards such as Best Goalie-06, MV Goalie-07, MVP Goalie-Holiday Bowl 08, MVG Turkey Bowl-09. Currently holding the record for most saves (61 saves) in a single game at the Anahiem Ducks Rink-Keep by Sportsnetusa.net.
